Karen’s consulting practice specializes in the field of education, where she has provided planning, training and evaluation services to her local school clients. Her passion to improve the lives of students has led her through the halls of more than 200 of Chicago’s public schools, where she has helped develop School Improvement Plans, design innovative curriculum, evaluate new educational experiments and consult in the Small Learning Community initiatives. In addition, she has assisted the Chicago Archdiocese Office of Catholic Schools in developing their Plan for the 21st Century.
Karen is an expert group process facilitator. She has conducted participatory strategic planning sessions with state agencies, the federal government, and countless private and voluntary organizations throughout the Midwest and abroad in nine other countries. Philanthropic institutions, too, have utilized her services in planning, program development, and evaluation engagements.
Karen is a founding member of the International Association of Facilitators, which conferred upon her the designation of IAF Certified Professional Facilitator (CPF). She holds a master's degree in Leadership Development and a certificate in Educating Adults from DePaul University. She serves as an adjunct faculty for DePaul's School for New Learning Master's Program, where she co-teaches "Facilitating Adult Learning."
Another of her passions is maintaining a sustainable environment. She has facilitated planning sessions recently for Citizens for a Greener Evanston and Transition Rogers Park. Last year she became a Chicago Conservation Corps Leader. Karen is also the Board Treasurer of the Institute of Cultural Affairs, a United Nations-recognized private voluntary organization focused on local community development worldwide. She, herself, has lived and worked on five continents.
