Launching a regional venture capital association:
When Development Capital Networks needed help supporting the launch of the first regional association aimed at promoting the growth of venture capital in Latin America, it called on Millennia.
DCN is a leading association management firm with offices through the United States that focuses on regional economic development, entrepreneurship and venture capital. Its international networks bring together capital, people and knowledge.
DCN knew that taking a start-up from a good idea to a viable enterprise requires a wide range of skills, and Millennia had just the right expertise to help successfully launch the Latin American Venture Capital Association. Millennia's experience in board development came into play along with its organizational management, strategy and relationship-building expertise.
The first order of business was getting LAVCA set up with a strong executive director. Millennia provided an interim executive director who used her management and industry expertise to engage the appropriate stakeholders and build a presence in the marketplace. Under Millennia's leadership, members were recruited to serve on a board, raise funds and implement services.
After facilitating LAVCA's successful launch, Millennia assisted in the recruitment and hiring and training of a full-time executive director.
Today, LAVCA is well established with 30 members, including many of the industry's leading players. Its website and monthly newsletter provide ongoing industry resources, publications and links to venture capital groups around the globe. In addition to member dues revenue, close to $1 million in grants and sponsorship have been raised.
